THE RIDER’S EDIT
Saddle Compass helps riders make a more informed saddle shortlist. We bring together exact-model specifications, merchant information and attributed owner accounts, with attention to the differences that matter for horse and rider.
Start with the model
Seat options, tree descriptions, weight and equipment can change between editions. Our reviews identify the model being discussed and call out conflicting or missing details.
Understand the tradeoffs
A comfortable seat may come with awkward stirrups. A lighter saddle may still be difficult to lift. We look at benefits and drawbacks together, including owner reports that disagree.
How we research
- Product documentation: manufacturer and merchant specifications, with sources and uncertainties kept visible.
- Owner accounts: reported experiences attributed to their source. Older purchases and different configurations are not automatically treated as the current product.
- Editorial judgment: an explanation of who might consider a model, what to check and when another option makes more sense.
These are research-based reviews. We have not personally ridden in or performed hands-on tests of the reviewed saddles. Merchant customer ratings are separate from our editorial assessment; neither is a horse-fit score.
How the website is funded
Links to Horse Saddle Shop use Awin affiliate tracking. We may earn a commission from qualifying purchases. This includes price buttons and merchant reference links. Read our affiliate disclosure for details. Saddle Compass is an editorial website, not the retailer; orders, returns and warranties are handled by the seller.
Photos and corrections
Product photos come from merchant listings and are used with permission. A pictured finish or accessory may differ from the configuration offered. Category images are illustrations, not photographs of tested products.
